An-Ping Settlement

The first Chinese settlement in Taiwan is An-Ping, located about 5Km to the west of Downtown Tainan. After Zeelandia was built as the administration center of the Dutch in the 17th century, An-Ping's history is strongly connected to the development of Tainan.

An-Ping appears as other traditional settlements in Taiwan. However, people will detect special style of the structure such as small-scale residential buildings and symbolic decorations, human scale alleys and traditional temples if one looks An-Ping thoughtfully.

Tan-Sen-Shou is the most special one among different types of these buildings. Small-scale doors and window are unique in addition to one wing, which is the particular style of the house. Sword-lion of different gesture and expressions are unique one among various evil-resisting decorations.

The small artillery Fort, Miao-Shou Temple, Hai-Shan Kuan is listed as Grade III historical landmark build around 1684 for the soldier form Hai-Shan area of Fukien. There were used to have five halls in An-Ping but only Hai-Shan Kuan is preserved. It's style and organization is that of a house and worships Matsu inside. It is an exhibition hall for crafts of An-Ping today.
